How to setup Vstarcam IP camera - PnP series at Home

So you just bought a PnP series Vstarcam IP Camera, well Congratulations, Good buy. It's cheap and has acceptable video quality. what's more, it's very easy to setup, that's what PnP means Plug and Play. In this IP Camera help blog post, I will share my experience on installing vstarcam IP camera in LAN and then make it available over the internet for remote access. I will keep it short and simple without overwhelming with technical jargon. So here are steps to configure VStarCam IP camera - PNP Series in your home network.

Setup IP Camera over LAN

First, we setup our IP Camera over LAN, so that we can watch camera from laptop and iPhone using WiFi. As we have a Wireless broadband network, and we bought wireless IP camera, it's easy to access the camera on a laptop without any manual wiring. Anyway, you need to do following two things to access your IP camera over LAN.

1) Open and mount your camera, make sure you mount it near to your router, in case you don't have a long network cable.
2) Connect the Power supply and Internet network cable.

How to setup VSTARCAM IP CAMERA PNP series
This is the first tricky part in your venture of setting up VSTARCAM IP Camera. first, connect the power supply with a camera, this will make your camera rotating left and right, up and down initially, of course, if your PnP camera allows you to rotate and Pan. Now you need to connect your router to the camera. The camera comes with a network cable, insert one end into the wireless router and another end to the camera.
If everything is OK, You could see the green light blinking in the router as well as on camera. Initially, when we did the setup, this is the step which creates lot's of a headache, since VSTARCAM IP camera has two sockets for power lead and we have inserted power lead on the wrong side, we don't see that network light blinking. You also need to make sure that your router is on and your camera is switched on.

Once you see the green light blinking on the rear end of camera and router, where you had connected a network cable, your setup of IP camera over LAN is done.

Now, it's time to watch your camera from your laptop or iPhone.

VSTARCAM provides a couple of software e.g. IP Camera wizard and IP Camera Finder which is required to access IP camera from the laptop and finding IP address of your IP camera. If you don't have them, you can install them from. Now you need to install IP Camera wizard on your desktop or laptop, for iPhone they have a different app which is also available for download on that link.

Once installed, you need to enter unique id for your camera, its alphanumeric number and located at bottom of your camera. If your camera is connected to your router then this software will automatically find it. If you are using wireless network then it will also ask to configure WIFI signal, just search and select your wireless network and key in your routers WEP key as a password, if you don't remember this password then you can see your wireless modem, it must be printed on any side.

Done, you can now access your VSTARCAM IP camera in your home network. You can follow the same process to setup IP camera in different rooms of your home or office and access them via Local Area Network. In next tutorial, we will see How to access VSTRAMCAM IP camera over the internet, which is very useful for remote monitoring of kids, elderly and of course your home.

  3. I was struggling to view my vstarcam IP camera over Internet, until I read your post. I too made same mistake, where camera is not getting power and we were puzzled, why our camera is not accessible from ip address. One think, which you might want to know that, if you want to access camera inside your home, you must access it using LAN not via internet, as most ISP block circular request, where client (browser) and server ( IP camera) is in same IP address.
